Mystic Crossing
As a cool morning mist rose off of the river, a bull Elk crossed through the scene. On this September morning, I staked out this vista hoping that Elk would cross the river. Off to the right, on a bench above the river, there was a bull Elk with his harem of cows. Elk were bugling all around me. The mist coming off of the water was the perfect amount to add mood and drama to the scene without concealing the Elk in thick fog. I just needed the Elk to cooperate. After a three hour wait. a lone bull Elk walked through the scene. The sunlight illuminated the Elk and made him stand out against the shaded trees in the background, giving the perfect amount of contrast to make this photograph. This is not a digital composite image. Just one click of the shutter.
